Vitamin D Deficiency and Weight Loss

Last year, Vitamin D was featured in over 3,000 independent clinical studies conducted worldwide. Vitamin D receptors are found on over 40 different tissues, including the heart, pancreas, muscles, intestinal cells, immune-system cells and brain. After the medical results were tallied and evaluated, vitamin D is now the superstar in the weight loss supplement industry with so many benefits that I encourage you to read more for yourself anywhere online or in the dozens of reputable medical journals, such as the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the Journal of the American Medical Association or the British Medical Journal.

For these reasons, I am very, very pleased to introduce you to our liquid vitamin D3 supplement, D-Slim™. D-Slim Liquid Vitamin D3 will enhance your weight loss and weight control, making your journey easier and faster. Here’s why we decided to include it in our family of weight loss enhancers:

Vitamin D is a natural hormone produced by the body when exposed to adequate sunlight or acquired through adequate diet and adequate supplementation. It’s shown to play several critical roles in weight loss and in overall health. It’s been revealed that 85 percent of us Americans are either deficient or insufficient in the blood levels of vitamin D needed to initiate all these benefits. Eighty five percent of us are insufficient or deficient, of which almost 100 percent of people who are considered obese or overweight are deficient!! No wonder our population is mostly overweight.

The research shows that adequate blood levels of vitamin D act for weight loss and health to:

-Balance hormone levels specific to weight loss and increased thermogenesis and metabolism.

-Improve the liver detox pathways to remove chemical load and thereby reduce the size of fat cells in the body. Adequate vitamin D slows fat cell growth based on the interaction of vitamin D with parathyroid and calcitriol hormones. The opposite happens with low vitamin D levels, where fat cell growth is accelerated – and these effects target belly fat first.

-Strengthen the intestinal wall by 12x, thus reducing inflammation in the body and shrinking the size of all fat cells. A strengthened intestinal wall boosts your whole immune system by 70 percent!

-Reducing the inflammation: joint stiffness. By balancing specific hormones, vitamin D regulates appetite and reduces cravings. This means you eat less but feel fuller, especially if you take D-Slim in the mornings. These mechanisms, in turn, reduce high blood pressure. Adequate blood levels of vitamin D balances the parathyroid hormone and calcium levels, which fight osteoporosis.

-Other benefits include: Adequate vitamin D is required for good mood and to fight depression. Adequate vitamin D is the cornerstone for stronger junctions between skin cells, yielding supple, smooth skin. And it’s key to repair stretch marks)

What is adequate vitamin D?

The current Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for vitamin D is between 400 and 600 IU and falls well below the 2,000 IU that many health providers now recommend. Research is showing consistently that for a healthy person of normal body weight, 4,700 IU of supplemental vitamin D per day are required to maintain adequate blood levels. For anyone who is overweight or obese, this can be doubled to 10,000 IU per day, since extra fat tissue will bind the vitamin and prevent it from being available to the body.

This makes sense if you think about where vitamin D comes from: the sun.

Excessive ultraviolet rays from the sun can be harmful to the body, but the only way to get adequate vitamin D from the sun is to expose 40 percent of your total body to the midday sun for between 20–120 minutes daily, in order to overcome the blocking effects of sunscreens and air pollution. As well, our food sources are not fortified with adequate amounts of vitamin D. You would need to consume 50 cups of fortified milk to get your blood levels of vitamin D to adequate.

Our overall lack of sun exposure and the low levels from our diets is why nearly 85 percent of us have low vitamin D status. This makes it prudent to take a vitamin D supplement to ensure adequate levels and gain the benefits of adequate vitamin D, rather than the hindrance of inadequate D levels. It’s important to know that the 10,000 IU per day of vitamin D recommended for weight loss is the “sweet spot” dose that yields the best weight loss. A larger dose does NOT yield more benefit, while smaller doses yield slightly less weight loss.

It’s also very important to know that D-Slim is one of only a handful of medical-grade vitamin D supplements that is guaranteed to deliver the stated dose in every drop, every day, right through expiry date on the product. A review of vitamin D supplements that appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association verified that multiples of generic and over-the-counter vitamin D supplements sold in stores and pharmacies delivered as little as between 9 and 50 percent of the claimed dose.

Be sure you are getting the optimum dose of Vitamin D, especially during these winter months! But down let it stress you out. Remember, weight loss is a lifelong effort. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, read our fabulous article, “9 Ways to Relieve Stress and Lose Weight.”
